Freres Engineered Wood, formerly Freres Lumber Co., has a 100-year history of innovation in the wood products industry, beginning in 1922 when T.G. Freres started a small sawmill in Oregon’s Santiam Canyon. Today, Freres’ operations include finished plywood, lumber, veneer and structural composite lumber, Mass Ply products, biochar, and a cogeneration facility that supplies renewable power for the local area. Known for being traditionally innovative, Freres is deeply committed to its community and to sustainable forest management practices. The company uses 100 percent of the wood it processes throughout its three operations—Freres Engineered Wood, Freres Timber and Evergreen BioPower LCC— and six wood products facilities. Freres provides family wage jobs to nearly 500 employees.

Mass Plywood Panel (MPP)
Freres’ patented MPP is an innovative, engineered wood product assembled by combining extremely thin layers of wood veneers. MPP uses 20-30 percent less wood than other mass timber products because of how densely these veneers are layered. Prefabricated structural elements such as floors, walls, beams and columns as large as 12 feet wide and 48 feet long and up to 24 inches thick can be built to spec.
As an industry leader in the production of high-quality sheathing and touch sanded plywood panels since 1998, we offer a wide variety of plywood options as found on our website. Freres Lumber uses APA as its third-party panel certifying agency. All on-grade plywood products (excluding Mill Cert, Shop and Blows) meet or exceed specifications according to US Product Standard PS 1-95.
Freres supplies green and dry veneers. Our green veneer is primarily made of Douglas Fir. Our preferred peel thicknesses in Douglas Fir are 1/10″ and 1/8″. Green veneer grades include CD, AB, Utility, and Natural (N) or High Density (HD).
We also offer White Fir Mix. White wood species are not segregated in our yard. The mix may contain White Fir, Noble Fir, Grand Fir, and Hemlock. Our preferred thicknesses are 0.125″, 0.14″, 0.15″, and 0.166″.
Dry veneer grades include face grades as well as density grades using a Metriguard 2800 DME.
